Inspired by the potency and intimacy of words passed down from one generation to the next, we are asking you to share with us words of significance that have been given you and that you in turn will consider sharing with a next generation of family and friends. From your family or community lineage, we are seeking personal words of advice or perspective given by a loved one, mentor or friend that have helped shape how you make your way in this world. As is evident in the site, we are interested in the potential similarities and differences of these words across divergent cultural traditions and ethnicities.
We intend to use your words, in many forms and translations, as part of the ongoing online installation. If your native language is other than English, please share these words in your own language first, and provide a translation into English. Offerings will be posted anonymously except for their lineage of passage - mother to daughter, friend to friend, etc...Please include this genealogy of passage in your email.
